Indian Couple Plan Eco-Friendly Weddings
Nupur Agarwal from West Bengal and Ashwin Malwade from Maharashtra met at a beach cleanup drive in Mumbai and bonded over trash
The couple decided to get married in 2019 in an eco-friendly and sustainable wedding
In an interview with HT, Nupur said, “When we pick up waste from the beach, there is no way we are going to create that kind of waste." Hence, the couple decided to have an eco-friendly wedding
Unable to find an ideal wedding planner, the couple organised their own sustainable wedding. Here's how they did it
The couple got eco-friendly hashtags embroidered on their wedding outfits to inspire people
The groom's procession, baarat arrived at the wedding venue in electric vehicles to reduce carbon footprint
Nupur and Ashwin urged their guests to travel in a train instead of taking a flight and planted one tree for each guest
The couple opted for sustainable and eco-friendly catering with ceramic plates and cups, biodegradable spoons and bowls
The couple offered sweets to their guests in steel boxes with their wedding date engraved on them and used newspaper to wrap gifts
They also used organic local flowers for decorating their venue that were later sent for composting
Using various waste minimisation, carbon neutralisation and waste management techniques, Nupur and Ashwin got happily married in a successful eco-friendly wedding
The couple decided to turn their eco-friendly idea of sustainable wedding into a profession by setting up their own event-planning company called Greenmyna
Now, Nupur and Ashwin together with their event planning team plan a wide range of sustainable events including weddings, birthdays, corporate events, etc
