You can catch this if an infected cat bites, scratches, or licks an open wound. The infected area will get painful, swollen, and filled with pus.

Ringworm, a fungal disease affecting the skin and scalp, can be passed on from humans to animals and can cause ring-shaped rashes on the skin.​

This is a bacterial disease that can transfer the faces of an infected dog or cat, and can lead to abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea, and fever.

This is a parasitic infection caused mostly to people who clean their cats' litter with bare hands. Symptoms include fever, muscle pain, and blurring of eyes.

How to avoid?

Here are some ways to avoid infections caused by pets.

Your pets must be vaccinated against distemper, hepatitis, influenza, Parvovirus, and rabies. Regular de-worming is also required for worm-related diseases.

Clean you pets' waste while wearing hands and gloves and wash your hands after you are done. Also wash their litter boxes outside the house to avoid cross-contamination.

Do not let your pet enter the kitchen especially when you are cooking or serving food. Don't share the same plate as your pet.

And lastly...

Do not kiss your pet's mouth to avoid infection through saliva. Avoid caressing pets who appear to be sick.
