Tomodachi Game Season 2, renewed or cancelled?
2021 was a revolutionary benchmark for the survival thriller genre as the Korean TV series Squid Game took the whole world by storm.
Confining a bunch of people in an unescapable environment and subjecting them to various phycological games became a hit massive hit amongst the masses.
More and more people started getting intrigued and engaged with this genre which also includes the anime industry as well.
So, when Spring 2022 rolled on and the anime adaption of Mikoto Yamaguchi and
Yuki Sato s’ manga series Tomodachi Game hit the small screen, fans were incredibly excited.
The story follows Yuuichi Katagiri, who is blessed to have a close-knit group of friends composed of four classmates Yutori Kokorogi, Shiho Sawaragi, Makoto Shibe, and Tenji Mikasa.
Despite being a poor student and living alone while working part-time, Yuuichi values his friends more than money.
Things take a drastic turn when the funds for an upcoming school trip are stolen, which leads to Shiho and Makoto becoming estranged from the group.
Yuuichi and his friends are conned into a meeting, and they are knocked out unconscious upon arrival. On waking up, they find themselves in a white room and confronted by a mysterious figure who calls himself as Makoto -kun.
He informs that one of their friends has 20 million yen worth of debt, and if they choose to leave, the 2 million yen entrance fee paid would not be returned so the person would keep the debt.
Yuuichi is about to ask who did this when Shiho comments that since they’re friends, there’s no reason to ask or doubt, and everyone ends up agreeing to play the game.
Can Yuuichi and his friends clear the multiple phycological games, or will their unbreakable bond shatter during the course is the central plot of the show.
Tomodachi Game Season one was received with mostly positive reviews as it was the second highest-rated phycological suspense series, only behind Summertime Render in the Spring 202 season.
Despite the popularity of the genre and the series itself, fans are beginning to wonder if there will ever be a second installment of Tomodachi Game or not.

WHAT IS THE TOMODACHI GAME SEASON 2 RELEASE DATE?
Tomodachi Game Season one aired from 6th April 2022 to 22nd June 2022 for 12 episodes.
As of writing, there is no update from studio Okuruto Noboru on the renewal of Tomodachi Game Season 2.

Production studios consider various financial and commercial metrics before announcing a renewal.
Tomodachi Game Season one was relatively successful as compared to other phycological thrillers series however, the anime didn’t typically rise near the top of Crunchyroll’s popular anime list.
Hence financially, the Tomodachi Game manga sales weren’t good enough to break into the Oricon Top 20 manga charts for April 2022.
Fans did enjoy the traditional high-stakes survival games formula, which is evidenced by its IMDB user episode rating.

The availability of a studio is another significant factor in renewal as Okuruto Noboru is not a big production house, and consequently, they don’t do sequels. In fact, the studio has only produced only four animes since 2018 but Tomodachi Game is their highest-rated series of them all.
Furthermore, Tomodachi season one ended on a cliffhanger with Tenji and Yutori going into a courtroom with Judge Manabu, who announces the fourth game, Friendship Guilt Court.
Nevertheless, if the studio does revisit for a sequel, we can expect Tomodachi Game Season 2 trailer and Tomodachi Game Season 2 release date by the Summer of 2024.
TOMODACHI GAME MANGA CATCHUP
Tomodachi Game manga was written and illustrated by Yuki Sato. It began serialization in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine on 9th December 9.
As of writing, the manga has been collected into 21 volumes, with the latest issue released on 7th October 2022.

As of April 2022, Tomodachi Game manga has over 4 million copies, including digital for volumes 1-20.
TOMODACHI GAME SEASON 2 PLOT
In the finale of Tomodachi Game season one, “What’s Most Important to Me Is…” Maria explains that Makoto was left with 500 million in debt when his father died.
He wonders what Tenji and Yutori will choose, money or friend. Yuuichi awakens and tells Tenji that he must go, as they can’t leave the game before finding the truth.
Yuuichi reveals the most important thing to him isn’t money but friends, and he loses consciousness again. Tenji states he will go. Yutori explains that she trusts Yuuichi, and if she trusts Tenji, she will go too.
Tenji and Yutori then go into a courtroom with Judge Manabu, who announces the fourth game, Friendship Guilt Court.
Tomodachi Game season one covered Volume 6: Chapter 26 from the manga, which means Tomodachi Game season 2 will begin by adapting Volume 6: Chapter 27, titled You Guys Are Friends, Aren’t You?
The second season will start with Tenji Mikasa and Yutori Kokorogi participating in Game 4: Friendship Guilt Court, the so-called Friend-Sin Trial.
However, they can reject the game and move on with Game 5, but in the process will find Makote Shibe without a defense against Manabu in the mock trial.
Since Shibe violated the game s’ rules by telling about the game to his father if Tenji and Yutori abandoned Shibe, he would “disappear.”
Bound and gagged, Shibe is charged with murdering his father. And the admins have already “collected the evidence”: fingerprints on the weapon, the father’s blood on Shibe’s clothing, and multiple witnesses who can place Shibe near the time and location of the crime. The argument with his father was so bad that Shibe even declared, “I’ll kill you.”
The goal of Game 4 is to “prove Shibe’s innocence” by convincing the chosen “jury members” by collecting their “not guilty vote.” In this case, the jury members are their 28 other classmates, and their not guilty vote is determined by Tenji and Yutori convincing them to give up 1.96 million yen, which is 70,000 yen each.

Tomodachi Game anime is directed by Hirofumi Ogura and scripted by Kenta Ihara. The characters are designed by Satomi Miyazaki, and the music is composed by Michiru.Art is directed by Si Man Wei, and Colour design by Aiko Mizuno, while Art is set by Tsukasa Ohira.
The opening theme song is “Double Shuffle” by Nana Mizuki, while the ending theme song is “Tomoshibi” by Saji. Animation is produced by studio Okuruto Noboru.

CONCLUSION
Considering the cliffhanger ending of season one and the fact Tomodachi Game is the highest-rated anime produced by studio Okuruto Noboru, the prospect of Tomodachi Game season 2 happening should be high.
